May 27th CampOUT: Bog Garden Educational Walk/Hike
Join us on May 27th 11-1 pm for a walking tour of The Bog Garden located at 1101 Hobbs Road guided by Jack Garvey, Jr. The Bog Garden was discovered by Dr. Joe Christian in 1987 after he found a forgotten wetland owned by Starmount Farms belonging to a bird sanctuary. Christian then created Bog Garden’s trails and plants using help from Greensboro city officials and volunteers. The Bog Garden has a raised walkway that stretches around half a mile. Part of the raised walkway overlooks Starmount Lake. Where the walkway leads into the lake there is a small, seated area towards the lake where viewers can relax as they watch local aquatic wildlife. The natural beauty of this swampy area has been developed into a striking exhibit featuring a half-mile, elevated wooden walkway that provides easy access through the garden. Visitors can see more than 8,000 trees, shrubs, ferns, wildflowers and the beautiful “Joe Christian Serenity Falls.” Please plan to meet at the Starmount Forest Dr. entrance. Ample parking is available across the street at the Bicentennial Gardens.
