Facilitating a brave space to feel & heal through LGBTQ+ centering, trauma informed, and body affirming yoga & more in NC triad.
All of you belongs here.
Yoga has been a crucial component in my journey navigating complex PTSD, depression, anxiety and chronic pain. However, yoga hasn’t always been available to me for a variety of reasons, including financial barriers and a lack of LGBTQ+ or diverse body size representation at the forefront of Westernized yoga culture. When I looked at traditional yoga studios or under the yoga hashtag online, I mostly saw a lot of the same thing: conventionally attractive people in thin, white, able bodies that were flexible and able to get into positions I never knew I could, with a lot of “good vibes only” language and mentality sprinkled in. Since I saw virtually no one who looked like me, I felt like I did not belong in this type of culture and in these spaces.
When I finally found a yoga class that welcomed me as I am, I felt, for the first time in years, a brief relief of the constant anxiety and trauma chatter in my brain. It was during that first class that I resolved to become a yoga teacher and create a different kind of yoga experience - one that welcomed all of you and embraced you as you are.
Hi, I’m Finn (they/them) and I believe in authenticity over perfection (which is unattainable anyway). I believe in facilitating a brave space as your movement guide - a space you can show up 100% authentically as you are that day, where you learn to connect with and trust your body, rather than look good in a bendy pose on instagram, and find a little piece of healing and connection to yourself and others on the mat. Healing can be a difficult and complex journey, and I’m here to meet you where you’re at and guide you at a pace that works for you, while you stay true to yourself and your process. I’m a 200 hour registered Yoga Alliance teacher and have completed over 20 hours of extra training in trauma informed yoga and body positive yoga. Accessibility is at the core of my values as a teacher, so most of my classes are offered on a sliding-scale, pay what you can model.
The hardest part is showing up, and I will meet you the rest of the way in an affirming and accepting environment that honors you and your own needs.
I hope to meet you on the mat soon. Namaste,
Finn
